39. Great earthquake in Fukui

On June 28, 1948, a terrible earthquake that took lives of about 4,000 people hit the city of Fukui (about 22,000 were injured). More than 35,000 buildings were destroyed that day, which significantly affected the transport system of the entire city. Due to such a chaos, the earthquake has been called the “Great Earthquake in Fukui.”
