Wilhelm Gustlov was a German transport ship. Since 1940, it had been used as a passenger liner. The ship was torpedoed on January 30, 1945, by a Soviet submarine, and this is said to be the largest disaster in maritime history. By one estimate, the actual loss could be more than 9,000 people.
