26. Mont Blanc and Imo Collision
In the harbor near the Canadian city Halifax, on the 6th of December 1917, there was a clash of the French military cargo ship “Mont Blanc”, which was fully loaded with trotyl, picric acid, and pyroxylin, with the Norwegian ship “IMO”. As a result of a strong explosion, the port as well as a better part of the city were completely destroyed. More than 2,000 people were killed.
