11. Tsunami and earthquake in the Tohoku region, Japan

The earthquake in Tohoku, called the “sea earthquake in the North East Pacific,” has taken 18,400 lives. It hit the coast of Japan around 14:46 local time on March 11, 2011. Tsunami waves of 77 feet high reached the coast of Japan within the next few minutes after the earthquake. 2,800 people were injured, and about 17,000 people were missing.
